A few minutes with Jesus....

Sing a song...

Psalm 96:1 Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth.

Psalm 100:2 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Psalm 147:1 Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.

How hard is it to praise, worship and sing songs when your life feels like it is falling apart? Did you know that most birds stop singing when it gets dark but there is one bird that sings in the dark? The whippoorwill. Did you also know they have a particular sound? They are nocturnal birds, and their little song sounds like they are singing "whippoorwill".

Are you singing in your dark places? Does it seem like the songs just fly right out of your heart when life isn't going well? Of course, it's hard to sing praise when we feel like we don't have anything to sing about. But you are being blessed even in the darkness. Trust me when I say I realize that sounds like a huge fib. But it isn't. God is asking you to have faith, trust in Him and be obedient to His will. When you do that, He protects you. He leads you back into the light. I admit it is one of the hardest things to do, smiling, laughing, singing, and trusting in the dark. But think of it like this. When you get up in the middle of the night you walk through your house or your room in total darkness right? You trust that you know how to get to the light switch. Okay well that is how God works. He expects you to trust HIM through the darkness.

How about when you feel anxious and have no idea how you will make it through the night? Have you thought about signing through those times? Sounds weird huh? Well, it works. Praising God and getting your mind on the melody and words that worship will calm your heart and mind. I've done it myself. I've literally sung myself back to sleep.

Walking in darkness is so hard. The unknown is scary. Not knowing where the money will come from for a bill. After searching and searching, why can't you find a job? Things in the house are falling apart and it's expensive to repair. Family seems to be falling away. Illness. There is a list a mile long of things that cause us to feel like we are in a dark place. But even Paul sang when he was imprisoned. What can we learn from this?

I believe that even when we are going through tough times there is always a reason to sing and praise. I also believe that God is the way maker. He is the light in the darkness. He is the reason we make it through. But we have to trust Him. We have to follow Him. We have to be OBEDIENT. If we are not where we are supposed to be in the will of God, these things are null. Give your heart and life to God. Trust His word. Read your Bible. Sing His songs.
